What is the name of your state (AL)

I am the preschool director of a church and we have to fill out applications for volunteer positions (my position is voluntary) on the application/background screening it asks if the applicant had ever been the victim of sexual abuse. I found this very disconcerting. I was told it was because of the statistics of victims becoming abusers. Is this legal? and what if someone was passed over as a volunteer because they answered yes?

They have the right to ask it. You have the right to decline to answer. They then have the right not to select you.
