asking about your job

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA
Can someone ask your employer if you are not only employed there but if you are on a leave of absence or any other questions?

Of course, they can ask. Whether or not the employer answers and to what extent is the issue. Who is asking and what specifically are they asking?
