Humiliated by Human Resources

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL.

I have been told that I will be let go from my job but not until December 15, 2009 Then, Human Resources sent out a pdf of my job sheet to everyone in the whole company, so they could rehire inhouse. They put my name down as being dismissed. They had on there how much I make and that I had been dismissed. This has made everything unbearable by humiliating me in front of all my friends. If I quit now, before December 15, I would not be eligible for unemployment benefits.

I am so angry and humiliated that I want to just leave. They apologized for sending it out to everyone in the company, but that doesn't help now. What do I do?

You could quit now, or you could stomp your feet & hold your breath, or you could ask for a written letter of apology (and of course, they could refuse).

They made a mistake (and apologized) but do you think they did something illegal by advertising in house for your soon-to-be open position ?

Andy has about summed it up. They made a mistake, they admitted it, they apologized. And, by the way, they didn't violate any laws or any protected right to privacy that you may think you have.

So what are you looking for, blood?

So look at it this way, you have got more than a whole month of pay being given to you before you begin your unemployment insurance. How dumb they are, because if you were unethical, you could really take revenge on them in many ways. (For example, faking a job related injury)

Certainly don't hurt yourself working, don't stress out. If they didn't think you were very ethical and would continue earning your keep until then, they'd almost certainly let you go right now. Most places they even escort you off the premises after announcing you're leaving.

If I were you, I'd discreetly imply to co-workers that I was moving on to something much much better, just working out my notice until Dec 15th. In the meantime, be putting out feelers, planning. Your implication might come true.

Perhaps you can use your time of lay-off, receiving unemployment, to do some retraining paid for by the state or federal government. Be checking on these opportunities with your state department of labor. Many of them being right after the first of the year.

Maybe you'll find another wonderful job before Dec 15th. Either way, I'd react with less than humiliation, I'd act like I was moving on to better things. Whatever you do, do not get angry and quit. Do not give them any reason during this period to terminate you for misconduct or absenteeism or something. You're right, that would keep you from receiving unemployment benefits.
