I work for a major retailer.
I service electronic goods such as digital cameras, vcrs etc..
I am an employee and I am payed on a piece work basis.
I am paid per each item that is repaired. However, there are
many instances that the very same item is returned to me via
management because a customer has simply just returned it.
Almost always there is nothing wrong with these returned
items accept for the fact that customers rarely read instructions.
However, I must once again check everything on this item so as
to ensure that it is in working order.
Problem:: If an item is returned, company policy is that it was a
mistake on my part and I am not compensated for work done on
the returned item.
What can I do to get compensated on these frivolous returns?
In one week, these returns may subtract 2 hours of work time.
These are 2 hours that I am not getting payed?

Obviously, your only option is to discuss this issue with your employer and try to negotiate some agreement where you get compensated for return repairs. You could offer that you should be paid if parts are NOT required for the return (which would imply that the unit wasn't 'broken' when returned), or you could agree to getting paid for half of the returns, or something like that.

In the event that you are not able to negotiate a payment plan, your options are to accept the current conditions or to find another job.
