My place of employment have given us a 60 days notice of closesure. They have decided to search all bags, including ladies purses. We basically open our purses and the security officers view the content. Can a place of employment search our purses if we haven't exhibited any behaviors to warrant this inspection? Are our rights being violated?

Welcome to the 21st century!!!!!!!!!

If YOU are singled out its discriminatory, if everyone is subject to searches it is viewed as a security measure.

Call the Texas Department of Labor and ask for their opinion on this.

Whether an employer can do any sort of personal search of employees varies based on State case law. Part of the issue hinges on whether the employee has a reasonable expectation of privacy.

If you were informed that searches would be conducted before they began, they are *probably* legal but hopefully the DOL can tell you for certain.
