Question

Reverse Discrimination?

This post has to do with a legal question regarding employment discrimination. Actually it would be more accurate to call it reverse discrimination. Since I am unsure as to where I stand in my situation, I will keep both the company name and my name confidential at this time.

I am currently employed by a local automobile dealership in Alabama where I have been employed for the past 6 years. My position is Sales and also Internet/Website Manager for about the last one and one half years. Approximately one week ago, the Finance/Business Manager at our dealership was demoted and the Secondary Finance Manager was promoted to fill the vacant position. Normally this may not seem to be out of the ordinary except for the following:

-The position of Finance/Business Manager was never announced as being available

-Two people were offered this position with the first being a black, used car salesman and the other being a female, secondary finance manager who was awarded the position. These are the only two people that I am aware of that even knew the position was available and I seriously question the qualifications of the person who was awarded the position.

Besides myself, there is at least one other individual with this company who would have welcomed the opportunity to apply for this vacant position. Neither he nor I were informed of the opening, given the opportunity to apply for the position or interviewed for the position.

During my employment with this company there have now been four different Finance/Business Managers. This position, in my opinion, is essential to further my career in the automotive industry. At no time have I been informed by management of the availability of this position or given any opportunity to apply for this position. However, a black salesman, and a female secondary finance manager with limited automotive experience had every opportunity.

I would appreciate any thoughts in this matter and would be happy to supply more detailed information. Thank you for your time.
