what rights does an employee have when their supervisor is constantly degrading everything they do and cuts down every suggestion they make? when they work as hard as they possible can and are still told they aren't doing enough - show more initiative and do more. when they see their job posted on the web and after confronting their supervisor about it, the supervisor claims it is not their job but then says that they haven't made a decision yet as to whether their job is secure - that all depends on the person they hire. Can a supervisor "dangle" a person's job termination in their face?

Yes. It's not illegal for the boss to be a jerk.

You have the right to look for another job where you'll be treated better and quit your present job any time you wish. You are also free to go to your boss's boss and complain about his behavior although how more senior management wishes to respond is entirely up to them.
