Sexual Harassment

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

My last employer owned a private franchise of Mobil. He said and did whatever he wanted to his employees and it appeared to me as though there would be no one above him to report him to. He employed everyone there that I knew.

He watched all his cashiers/employees 24/7 from home under surveillance and would call the stores if he saw something he didn't like. One of my favorite people quit, because he called him up after seeing that he walked away from the register, screamed at him and told him "you're going to die in this place."

As far as I was concerned, he approached me and started playing with my shirt and told me that if I was a good girl, he'd buy me a new shirt for christmas. He has made other remarks too that were entirely inappropriate.

My question is, what do you do in that situation? In franchises, does the owner have any oversight by the corporation? Could he have been reported to the corporation at all? Or does he just rent the Mobil name and it's his business.

You start by saying "please don't touch me or say things like that to me". If he continues, you report to the EEOC.

eeoc?

what is the EEOC and what can they do? Also, do corporations have any involvement in the franchises that carry their name and if so, to what extent?

I have no idea and I suspect it varies by company. You can always call corporate and ask them.

The EEOC is the government agency which regulates and enforces equal opportunity employment law.
