is swearing illegal

hi,

I'm just wondering if swearing is considered a form of verbal harassment in America or Canada?

(for example, calling somebody a bitch or names of the similar kinds.)

No one here can speak to Canadian law, which can be very different from US law.

In the US, swearing is not illegal, and in the very broad sense you are asking, would not be considered harassment.

As cbg said, swearing is not illegal. But your employer is free to discharge you for using inappropriate language at work and/or demeaning at a co-worker. Depending on the circumstances, the language used, and how frequently, it's possible that it could meet the legal standard for sexual harassment or even the threshhold for criminal harasment.

Okay but it's quite a hike from where you are.
