Threats and Harassment at work! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VIRGINIA I am being threatened and harassed by my supervisor at work. These threats and harassments to me include threats of being physically assaulted, talked to like the scum of the earth, and a stupid dog. Frequently being threatened to be fire, then within minutes acting as if nothing has happened and telling me what a great job I am doing. Constantly being told how no one likes me and how everyone at the shipyard thinks I am stupid. These Scare Tactics must end. I recently found out that this supervisor's story about how he was tried for attempted murder and bragging about getting off on technicalities and telling me what he is capable of doing to me is in fact true. A family friend who is a Police Captain in Virginia Beach helped me learn how to get the public records. However, the supervisor’s story about being tried for attempted murder is only partly true. He was NOT tried for beating up a guy and almost killing him, he was tried for trying to burn down a building his wife was inside of attempting to kill her. I have filled a formal complaint with our personnel department; however, I have heard rumors that it does not matter because this supervisor was hired by some higher ups that will protect him??? I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE OR NOT??? BUT if it is, something needs to be done and I need your help in knowing what to do! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! Last edited by m martin; 09-27-2009 at 07:38 PM. | If the harassment is directly because of things like your race, gender, religion and/or disability, then file a claim with the EEOC. If this supervisor is threatening you with personal bodily harm, call the police. |

| When he yells at you, curses you or calls you names, tell him not to talk to you this way. In a very calm voice. If he then gets in your face, touches you in any way, tells you he is going to wring your neck, he's killed before....yada yada yada...then you go somewhere immediately and call in the police and say you were physically assaulted and threatened further. If you had not already filed a complaint with HR, I would say to file one. Since you have done this, you need to talk to them again and tell them that this situation has not improved, and that you intend to involve the police. You do not need to tell them, or anyone else that you've checked his background, but you can say you know that he has been in trouble with the law before and you have reason to believe his threats are serious and that you are very concerned. Higher ups cannot protect someone who is stupid enough to get an assault charge filed against him on the job. Be sure, though, that he is actually getting physical with you. If you do not pay any attention to his verbal harrassment, what does he do then? Some people do not have a clue how to supervise. However, know that they can decide to fire you in this situation, very tough to fight unless you are covered by EEOC or some protected class. |
