My daughter was paid from her employer while she was on bedrest for her pregnancy. The company doesn,t have short term disability. Now that she is back at work they made her sign an agreement that the money paid is her bonus for last year (2001) and this year(2002). Our question is this. If she was to quit is she liable to pay this money back? Nothing is stated in the agreement about termination voluntary or involuntary. She did not ask the company to pay her they voluntarily paid her. She lives and works in Iowa.

If there is nothing in writing saying that she has to pay it back under any particular circumstances, then they can demand till the cows come home and there will be no legal way they can force her to. But she should be sure there is nothing she may have signed in the past about bonus repayments in general.
