I live in Orange texas and was riding in the passenger seat. The young man who was driving was taken to jail for a DWI. Sonce I was 23 they arrested me for contributing. I have never been in trouble before at all. Can you give me an idea what I am looking at as far as fines, jail, or probation?

With a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge, you are looking at the possibility of up to one year in jail and/or a hefty fine. It is a Class A misdemeanor.

Contributing to a minor means that you purchased for, or gave to, or was visibly present with a minor who possessed or consumed alcohol.

Following are two links to the law, one a bit more reader-friendly than the other.

Alcohol Beverage Code Chapter 106 (Scroll down to 106.06): http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/AL/htm/AL.106.htm

Chapter 106, Provisions relating to age: http://law.justia.com/codes/texas/2005/al/004.00.000106.00.html

I recommend you see an attorney in Texas for help in handling the charge. The attorney will work with the prosecutor to get you the best possible outcome.

Good luck.
