I'm from California.

On January 2nd, Sunday of last week, I had gotten arrested for shoplifting first by the Loss Prevention of Macy's and while they wrote a narrative and got my stats, they called the nearby Pasadena police. An officer came by, handcuffed me and escorted me to the station.

Once there I spent four hours in a holding room, helping the officer fill out papers and got my picture/prints onto their documents and waited for my mother to pick me up.

Now I'm supposed to go to court on March 2nd and I don't know what I should get ready for. I know I'm definetely not going to get laid off easy since the store was Macy's and it was considered a commercial burglary or something.

My charges I think were: $300 worth of merchandise and since I've done it before and just gotten away with it, I doubt they're going to stop at the time of my arrest.

Well, anyway... Thanks for hearing me out. If anyone knows what is going to become of me, please let me know.

No one can guess what might happen.... as it is entirely up to the court. However, be assured your BEST will be a probated sentence plus a fine. You will also be sent a very nice letter by Macy's demanding compensation for their losses.

In California:
SECTION 1. Section 490.5 is added to the Penal Code to read: (c) when an adult or emancipated minor has unlawfully taken merchandise from a merchant's premises, the adult or emancipated minor shall be liable to the merchant for damages of not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), in addition to the retail value of the merchandise, if not recovered in undamaged condition, plus costs. An action for recovery of damages, pursuant to this subdivision, may be brought in small claims court if the total damages do not exceed the jurisdictional limit of such court, or in any other appropriate court. The provisions of this subdivision are in addition to other civil remedies and do not limit merchants or other persons to elect to pursue other civil remedies.

Was that the Macy's down by the convention center?

If they know of your prior offenses, that will play a role. Usually your parents will have to pay a fine for the property to Macy's, and there may be other court costs, fined and a sentence. You could have community service of some type to a more serious sentence, probation, it depend on the value of the theft as to the punishment, your parents will have to appear with you. If you are continually shoplifting, you have a problem and need to get help. Ask your parents to get you into counseling before your court date.
