What is the name of your state? Iowa
What can a 16 year old do to get out of a bad situation with her parents? Her mom & step father made her move away to a different state to live with her father who lives in a 1-bedroom dungeon like abode. I don't want to be judgemental, but where her father is living is no place for a 16 year old girl. Her father is trying to get himself back in shape after trouble with the law & drugs. She has friends she could live with, but wants to know what her legal rights are. She really needs to get out of there, but her mother won't take her back. Her mother has custody, but her dad said she could stay with him. It is not a good situation for her at all.

Stealth's question is a very good one, because odds are you are not anybody that can do a damn thing in this situation. This 16 year old must do as mommy and daddy say until she is 18. If she is not being treated the bare minimum as the law requires, she can call CPS and they can do an investigation. If they decide this really is a poor environment, they will have her moved, but I can guaruntee it won't be with any of her friends.
