$1500??? You have got to be kidding me!!!!

What is the name of your state? Minnesota

I backed out of my lease in my apartment the last month due to no hot water for 2 days, no heat for 3 days, police always being called, the crazy meth-head maintainance man not fixing my problems in my apartment,......I could go on forever.

A few months back, I received an itemized "bill" for my damages. I kept that apartment in pristine shape. They are charging me for the last months rent, which they took my deposit, which is fair. I can't really remember the rest of the itemized charges, because after I saw the first few, I laughed and threw it away, because it was so absurd. One charge was for "trash disposal" for $175.00 - THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT IN THE APARTMENT! I was also charged $25.00 for not returning my keys, when in fact, I put them in an envelope in the mail drop box for the apartments with my apartment number on it.

I called the attorney, beacause now, they said they are garnishing my wages 25% every week!....in the amount of $1500.45. I contacted an attorney on my behalf and they basically said it would cost more for them to help me. There is NO WAY that my place was that messed up and I know they are fabricating everything!!! Is there ANYTHING that I can do for my defense? Would small claims court work? What would I sue them for? Thanks for your help.

If they are garnishing your wages, that means the already have a judgment against YOU. The time for small claims court is long past.

It's never a good idea to "ignore" bills.

Perhaps you are not laughing now right?

Next time instead of laughing and throwing away a key document you might be a bit more mature, read it and challenge at that time if applicable.

It's too late now...hope you have learned something from this very expensive lesson.

You know guys, I came in here hoping to get some advice and all I have received is belittling. Thanks a lot for making me feel worse than I already do.

No one can MAKE you feel anything. You feel badly because you screwed up and it's going to cost you.

You got an answer, just because it wasn't the one you wanted doesn't mean you didn't get any help at all.

The fact is you let this go on too long and now you'll have to pay and I bet you never, ever do it again.

Suck it up and get on with life, it's too short to dwell over what amounts to chump change in the long run. Sometimes life's lessons are REALLY painful (I speak from inordinate amounts of experience here.) but life moves on anyway and so should you.
