Any suggestions? No proof!

What is the name of your state? Georgia

I rented a room from a (now) married couple who had an empty bedroom in their apartment and needed help with the rent.

Our relationship from the beginning was too trustworthy, and only a verbal agreement of how much rent was to be paid each month and when it was due.

In addition, each month I paid rent to them in cash. No receipt was ever created on either part.

Now that I have moved out, they are trying to make me pay them more money, stating I was a month behind AND that I never paid them for the last month on top of that.

In addition to that, my boyfriend was going to rent their third bedroom from them, but he couldn't move in right away. So they agreed to let him pay $500 as deposit to "hold the room" for him. All the plans fell through, and I let them know that he wouldn't be moving in & I also gave them notice for my moving out as well. They did not offer any part of his money back, and also gave me "attitude" and acted upset that I was moving out as well.

They lied to me about how much rent for the apartment was & how much the monthly bills were. I was under the impression that what I agreed to pay them was a fair price for my share. They've left numerous monthly bills, as well as carbon copies of rent checks which showed ACTUAL amounts of everything. But I never made an issue out of it becasue I had nowhere else to stay and it would have been even more expensive to live on my own in a 1bed apartment.

I was to buy my own food and on numerous occasions, the food/drinks I bought was being consumed by them without permission.

They have been making immature threats towards me and insisting that I owe them money. One of their threats was that they are putting a lien on me.

Is this even possible?
Would they win this fight if there is absolutely 100% no documentation/proof of anything?
It is their word against mine.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???
