Belongings left in apt: charge security deposit?

Tenants vacated apt leaving most of their belongings. I have charged their security dep a small amount and am incurring most of the cost in getting rid of their furniture and many other items. They object to not receiving the entire deposit back. Does security deposit cover this type of damage?
