Landlord of apartment complex wants to replace carpet after having required professional cleaning done there. Carpet cleaner and maintenance man saw no problem with the carpet. After walkthrough, maintenance saw that we had a pet and did a check with some type of special light imaging where they say they found stains on the back of the carpet and padding. There is no visible evidence or odor of this there. Can they force us to pay for new carpet???

Depending on how old the carpet is, they likely cannot expect 100% of the replacement costs. They would only be able to recover the depreciated cost...
HOWEVER, if there is further damage underneath, you are ALSO liable for the cost to repair. That could be several times the (appropriately depreciated) cost of the carpet.

With that said - your pet damaged the carpet and the padding. Of COURSE you are responsible for that damage...I cannot fathom why you'd think otherwise.
