What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona

We are wanting to move out of our rental and our land lord wants to keep all of our deposit. The situation is that there is a vehicle involved and at first we were gonna purchase it for the landlord by using our deposit that we had givin him. We both had lost our jobs and cant afford to have the vehicle and told him that we dont want it. we did not sign anything saying that we were gonna take it. There was nothing ever written up or sign that he could keep our deposit and now is threatining to keep it saying we had a verbal agreement . I do not have the title for this car or any paper work and have not givin him any money for the car. Can he hold our deposit for this?

Please help completely frusterated :(

The landlord cannot keep your security deposit for this reason. The landlord can only deduct rental related damages from the security deposit.

The security deposit and the car sale are two separate issues.
