What is the name of your state? California

I let a relative move in until he was able to find another place to live.
He said it would be for just a few weeks.
He has been here just under one year now.
He never paid rent and did not sign any contracts.
He does not sleep here any more, but his property is stilll in the garage.
He claims that he is unable to find a place to live and that he can not find a place to move his property to.

I was told by the police (Long Beach) that after 30 days he had a legal right to stay here.
That to get him out of here I would have to go through the eviction process.
Is this true?

Who am I? This property is owned by my mother. I am look after it and paying a small rental fee. What is the name of your state?

Your mother will have to go to court to have him evicted.

You or she cannot change the locks to keep him out or put his belongings out on the street.

Where Does He Sleep

I have no idea where he sleeps.
I have not seen him in almost 4 months.
His mail comes here, but he also has a post office box.

"As he is not a "resident"".
I do not understand the term, "resident", as it is looked at by the law.

And, "I would give him 30 days to remove all his belongings".
I was told I can not touch his belongings.
Are you saying *I* can remove his belongings?

Thank you for your help!!
