Eviction/ Abandonment in SC

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Taylors SC

My cousin has been arrested and is in jail for an undetermined period of time. She has been renting a house, but has lost her job and has no means to pay the rent. The electric has been shut off for non-payment and the water will be shut off in a day or two.

We, (family), are concerned about how long we have to move her belongings out. We would not be receiving any notices, and obviously neither would she. I don't want to see her lose her personal possessions, but don't know how to go about getting access to the house to move things to storage.

In addition, the car she drives is owned by my aunt who is elderly and lives 10 hours away. We need to get access to the house to get the car and return it to my aunt.

Any ideas?

Get her stuff out ASAP. Rent unpaid, utilities off and tenant not around = abandonment and the landlord can take possession of THEIR property and remove her stuff.

Cousin will still be responsible for the rest of the lease, correct?
Will the landlord be willing risk any liability of letting a bunch of strangers just haul off his renter's belongings on their say so?
Should they get a written statement from cousin?

ppp, where are the house/car keys? Does Aunt have a spare car key she can mail to you?

Sure they can, after they go through the proper channels to do it.
