Fellow Tenant Issues

What is the name of your state? Florida

Hi all,

My family and I have been living in this apartment since July. Ever since the neighbors next door moved in 3 months ago, we have been having problems with them and the noise levels for music that they listen to. We initially tried to get their attention, and request that they turn it down, but we were confronted with anger, attitude or they (usually) just ignored us when we knocked on their door. We started calling the main office of our apartment complex, and they've left notices, and have even come out to talk to the people living there themselves.

Nothing is having an effect, we've even called the cops, but to no avail. Then on Sunday, they were left a message about having someone living there not on the lease, and were given a 7 day to fix. That night, they pounded on our doors and yelled at us through the doors. They then played music loudly for around 30 minutes, only getting really loud towards the end, and then they left the house. I realize now that we should have called the cops, but I am so afraid of making these people even angrier. I hesitate because I don't want to get these people angry and then not know if we will be backed up by the office. These people are so intimidating that I hate going outside when they are home. I am afraid of these people because I have an infant.

I've explained this to the property manager, when I told her about Sunday night. Again, was just told to wait 7 days to see if the problem gets fixed, or to call the police if they get too loud. The fellow tenants have also yelled to us from their car, made rude gestures, and they have started cranking up the music for short periods of time, then leaving their house, as if to goad us.

I am tired of living like this, and we need to know what our legal recourses are, since it seems our complex isn't willing to bite the bullet and get rid of some bad tenants or move us to a new location.

Thanks,
H in FL
