Then you would present your documentation to the court that you paid your rent for January to dispute your landlords request for an eviction due to failure to pay rent.

I would add that you should bring proof of prior month(s) rent payments, as there are some who, even faced with direct evidence that you have paid that month's rent will try to posit that you were paying for a different month.

Have you tried to resolve this directly with the LL? I found that I was able to avoid court by going directly to apt. management. (Super annoying.)
