I live in Washington State and I am currently renting an apartment. A few days ago, we applied for a different apartment to move into. We were just wondering how much information about me can my current landlord can give to my potential landlord? Can any of it harm our chances of being approved for a new apartment?

Generally a landlord tells another landlord how were you as a tenant.

Paid rent on time ?
Good neighbors / Any complaints ?
Housekeeping history ?
Problems with the Law on the premises ?
Illegal activities ?

Some Landlords will give excellent references to a prospective landlord just to get rid of the bad apple the have .
