What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? We rent a house in New York and out landlord has changed the lease to read that we must have insurance to cover any injuries to any guests at any time. Isn't this what her home owners policy would be for?? Is it legal to not cover things that happen on your property?

Your renter's insurance (dirt cheap, I'm sure you have it already) will fulfill that requirement.
