My security deposit was returned yesterday and money was deducted for not returning keys. When I first signed the lease, I received 2 keys (one for the security door and one for the apartment). A year or so later, someone had stolen the security door lock so tenants were issued two new keys.
We did not sign for these. I returned the two new keys upon vacating (no idea if I even still have the original keys - because they no longer worked, I probably threw them away).
My question is, since I only signed a form acknowledging two keys and returned two keys, do they have a right to deduct this money?
