What is the name of your state? California
Our landlord rents a triplex (1 downstairs, 2 upstairs) which there are no air conditioners in in any of the units. With temps hitting close to 110 this last weekend, all of the units have become almost unbearable to live in. Because of the bad neighborhood it is in, it is unsafe for us to leave any windows or doors open when we are not home, or at night when we sleep which makes the place even hotter. One month ago new tenants moved into one of the units and had the landlord write into their lease that he would provide A/C for their unit, which he still has not provided. Now the other tenant in the other unit has moved out and in order to get another renter right away in the hot weather, the landlord has purchased a large A/C for this unit, but still has not purchased one for the other new tenants or my unit. I have offerred to buy one and take it off of the rent, but they said no. Is it legal to provide one service to one of your tenants and not another?
Thanks
