Lanlord changed locks and lied to the police

I live in Massachusetts.

Tonight the lanlord changed the locks on my apartment. He called and threatened to have police remove my belonings by the police if I didn't pay the full amount of money owed by the agreement signed on December 22nd.

I called the police outside of my apartment while being locked out. They took a statement and contacted the lanlord. He lied about the day I was to move out.

There is moreto the story which involves the Board of Health and the lanlord breaking to show my apartment to other people while I was still living there without my permission.

What are my options?

Thank you.

Assuming that the landlord is 100% wrong and you are 100% right - you still need to move ASAP. Obviously, the police understood the "story" the landlord told so absent them believing you over the landlord, you need to arrange to get your stuff out and then have an attorney review whatever previous history with health dept, etc there may be.

Self-help eviction (changing the locks without a court order) is illegal in all states. Find a L/T attorney and sue LL immediately for forcible detainer/unlawful ouster. You may have other claims -- the attorney will review them & advise you as to which are good court claims.

the lanlord changed the locks back the next morning because the police told him to do so. When he changed the locks he broke down a door that is no longer secure. The police took another report, but this one for breaking and entering. The report is being sent to detectives.

what do I do next? Thanks again for the help.

press charges on him**************.

Then negotiate a FULL return of your depsoit PLUS moving fees, and some free rent, and move out.

Make sure you get ALL of it up front, think of this as the landlord breaking your lease....he will owe you penalties.

And if he does this you would consider not pressing B&E charges!

did you have a lease? not month to month?

Go see a L/T attorney. Sounds like you have a good case & could get some $$ from LL.
