| | | | Rent commenced 14 years ago @$725.Raised to $900 5 years ago
with stipulation that last month rent will increase to $900.
Rent increased to $1100 3 months ago with a promise of a new lease, but never recieved or signed. Am I to pay $375, difference between $725 & $1100, or only responsible for $175, difference between current signed lease?

| | | | as long as the landlord gave you a 30 day notice in writing that the rent has gone up, that will be enough to stand up in court.
Plus you didnt protest the increase, or demand a new lease, so you are obligated to pay the higher rent....Just be HAPPY they didnt ask for $200/$400 more to increase the last month rent and deposit to $1100
And unless you have some sort of government rent reglation NO ONE is guarenteed a renewal lease...so i guess you should keep quiet and pay the higher rent, or else the landlord will give you a whole 30 days to get out, because you have no lease!

Dear Mary,
I have moved from said apartment. I was able to compromise with the landlord for $175 total. I consider myself lucky.
I assumed I might have a case, alas you were right. Thank you for taking the time out to answer my question.
