Question

NYC, lease has a clause requiring renters insurance. Is this legal? Is this enforceable if the lease is signed?

$19 is approximately 4 cups of desperately needed Starbucks. However, since im posting for a friend, i won't complain. I just want to clarify it is enforceable. The landlord can demand to see your renters insurance policy and initiate eviction proceedings if you fail to provide proof of insurance?

The BEST is yet to come......

Hold your coffee cup....some large mgmt/insurance companies are requiring that you buy renters insurance from THEM.

Think of it this way.. Dont pay your auto insurance on time, the Motor Vehicle demands you send them your License plates back.

Or drive without insurance and your DL is suspended.

The landlord is trying to protect his building as well.
