Need Help Fast

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?Indiana
My wife and I currently moved to Indianapolis and moved into an apartment complex which is owned by the same company which we previously lived in. I signed a 1 year contract with the current complex. We have only lived in the apartment since July 2005 and in that time that I know for a fact there has been 2 break ins into apartments and 1 car break in (Mine) on the same week as my car was broken into the swat time and local police were in our complex property, this last one was really difficult to understand and forget. Guns were drawn and it was very scary. The next day I proceeded to call the police department and ask if they could give me a the statictics for the area and the results were very bad (15 issues) since March 2005 to Ausgust 2005 this does not count septmember which is when the above incidents occured. My wife and I don't feel safe and as each day go by the more scare we get. Can this be a case for breaking my lease without penalties. I have already given the require 30 days notice but the complex wants to charge me as If I was leaving for just any reason. What can I do.

being in a dangerous area is not the landlords fault, so no it is not grounds for breaking the lease.
