What is the name of your state? NH

We just moved out of an apt and our ex-landlord is trying to charge us $45 to replace the front door lock and $20 to install it. The lock was new, in perfect working condition and we left him both keys. Has anyone ever heard of this?

What is there reason for changing it ?

The burden of proof will be the LL's .

If the LL is just changing it in case you had extras made , then the LL pays the cost .

On a final note , did you change the locks on the LL ?

If so , and you did not replace the original , the LL may have a claim .

Was the lock "new" because you took his lock on and put your own lock on it? If so, the manager has the right to replace the locks and charge it back to you. It could be a "master" system in which the owner wants access to all units with one key or he just wants all units to look the same.
