They are doing construction in our apartment complex. One day, while we were not home, the maintenance guy unknowingly cut off our power. We originally left around 3 pm and returned home around 8 pm. They usually don't work 4 or 5, so it happened sometime around then. When we returned home and saw that our power was off, we immediately called the city. They had an electrician come out and inspect. He stated to us that it was not the city's fault that we were not getting power. We then called our landlord and left a message. She did not get back to us until 9 am the next morning. She had the maintenance guy come out and fixed whatever it was that he did, and we had power again. By that time our power had been shut off for at least 16 hours. The temperature of our fridge was at 40 degrees. I know that at any restaurant or place that serves food, this is considered to be an unsanitary temperature for food to be at. We were wondering if there was any way to ask our landlord to reimburse us for our lost food.

They don't sell ice bags in your area? Most people do something to try and salvage their food. No, this one is on you.

It looks like your refrigerator is well insulated. Do a google search. 40 degrees or less is about right for food storage.
