| There is nothing in California law (I'm a Californian myself) that allows a landlord to raise the security deposit.
If they want to keep dogs out, they could probably get away with it by giving tenants adequate notice that no more would be allowed in the complex. They could add a "grandfather" clause, which means that people who owned dogs already could keep them but couldn't get another one if something happened to them.
I strongly disagree that a chihuahua is a good pet for your child since they are known to be high-strung. There are what are known as service dogs that are working partners for the deaf. These dogs are protected by Federal law and can accompany their owners into a grocery store, for example. They form a very close bond with their owners, but their main purpose is to be an assistant, not a mere "doggie." |
