Cool

rental deposit

What is the name of your state? VA

Deposit of $1750 from previous roommates was made when they signed the lease.
One moved out September 2004, leaving her $875 deposit with the landlord.
The other left April 2005 and was told by the landlord that I pay her the $875 she paid as a deposit.
Now I have to pay my deposit of $875 to the landlord.
In the event I do receive my full deposit amount when my lease is up, I’m still out $875 because I had to pay my roommate the $875.
Isn’t it the landlord’s responsibility to return her deposit?
Or am I missing something?

What did the written lease y'all had with each other and the landlord say about this situation?

Then you have been conned out of $875? Correct?
