rights with immediate family members and roommates

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? NY

I am renting a family member's house while he is away. I've let 2 roommates move in. There is no lease, no written agreement between me and my family member or any of the roommates. My husband and I have been working things out, we had previously been split up. My roommates want me to pay 1/2 of the rent for my husband and I to share a room (which would be split up between 4 people). I've read that I have the right for immediate family members to live with me but i'm not sure what rights the roommates have when it comes to him and I sharing a room. My belief is that rent should be split between the number of rooms occupied, which would be 3. I was wondering a) what legal rights I have with living with my husband here, b) what legal rights the roommates have if my husband lives here, c) what are the rights with no written agreements? I'm very confused about the situation.
Thanks.

you are all month-to-month tenants. use google to look up new york's laws for month-to-month tenants.

is the agreement between you and the roommates or you and your "family member"? if it's you, then the decision is entirely up to you.

re:

There isn't a written agreement. The family member who owns the house has me here while they are away, which will be a year or two. I was told I could move people in to help pay for the bills.

i didn't say "writen agreement", i said "agreement".

let me rephrase: do your roommates pay you, or your family member?

Oops, sorry, misread. My roommates give me their share of rent. I give the owner the total rent payment.

then you are in the strongest position possible. you don't have to change the arrangement if you don't want to, and the only recourse your roommates have if they don't like it is to give their notice and leave.

I read it in a lot of places. Here is one of them.

I'm not sure if this is only for tenents with a lease or not.
Also, I'm having trouble finding laws for month to month tenencies.

btw, thank you for all the help, I do appreciate it. This is a very confusing situation.
