What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania

We recently received a check from our previous landlord for the remainder of our security deposit for a rental in Colorado. He verbally stated that he would not take more than 1/3 of the deposit for cleaning of which we told him 'okay'. He didn't honor this and took more (giving no receipts on the cleaning which was exorbitant at $120.00 and only gave us a 1/3 back otherwise, charging us for breaking the lease (in lieu of a job transfer that was out of our control). We gave him 30 days notice, which was the ONLY item mentioned in the lease, no charges were detailed in the lease otherwise. We are not happy and wish to take him to small claims court to recover the rest of the security deposit, however we are now living out-of-state in Pennsylvania. What are our options?

Your option is to travel (unreimbursed) to Colorado and sue the bad guy in small claims court.

"charging us for breaking the lease (in lieu of a job transfer that was out of our control). "

What makes you believe getting a job transfer is a legal justification for breaking a lease?

Are you willing to travel all the way back to Colorado to sue over this matter? Your travel will not be compensated by the court.
