What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Long Island New York

Dad has been paying rent to live in a house in Amityville for 2 years. 4 months ago the landlord lost the house and didn't say a word until last month where she tried to evict my father and two small children. Dad called the bank and was advised to no longer pay rent. The landlord has since cut off the heat and has threatened to turn off the power. What should Dad do next?

The landlord will be in big trouble for cutting off the heat if your dad takes him to court. That is an illegal act.
YOur dad should be paying rent to somebody, if is not the bank's decision to make.
