Sublease

Decatur, IL...I am currently in a bind with my property manager over the terms of my sublease and could use any help I can get. I subleased my apartment at the beginning of the year from a student who did not return to school. This was in fact a sublessor agreement and not an assignment agreement. I was put on the lease by the complex in the form of a formal sublease and the original lesee was charging a 100 dollar subletting fee. Now, I have recently lost my job and am unable to afford my apartment. I need to move and was under the impression that by being a subleasor i was not responsible for payment of the lease beyond my inhabitants of the apartment. I need to find out asap if this is in fact the case. Would it be reasonable to demand a release from the lease agreement, putting the liability solely in the former's tenants name? Please Help!
