Question

Tennessee Eviction question

a friend of mine lives in Shelby County Tennessee. She is at least one month behind in her rent but has been paying little by little (100 here 150 there) On 2/25/02 she was served with eviction papers. on 2/26/02 her husband went to the landlord and paid him another $150. The landlord also told him that "don't worry about the papers, you don't even have to show up in court". There is no written lease since the one year lease expired over 5 yrs ago, they have just been month to month.
I know each state is different but does the landlord accepting rent after eviction papers have been served affect the eviction? I know in other states it does. Thanks

YOU are in teneseeee dumb redneck country...

so the landlord knows your friends husband is a good ole boy never meanin no harm and probably barely made it out of high school....so he believs the landlord.

Thats good he will learn a good lesson in about 2 weeks a marshall comes to the door and says you have to get out....and i mean NOW!!!!!!

Then he will know about Redneck justice!

Hint: he MUST show up in court ON TIME, and show the judge his reciept for the $150, and the rest of what is owed, it should stall the eviction.
