Wacko Roomate Eviction

West Hollywood, California My roomate has been accusing me of stealing from him, which I have not. Meantime, he has bounced four rent checks in the past eight months, been late on rent payments, trashed the inside of my fridge because he thinks I have been taking his Stouffer's dinners, and, generally has behaved like an ass, and made my otherwise peaceful home life an unlivable mess. Specific to West Hollywood, how do I get him out? We have no written agreement, and I am the only one on the lease. P.S. It is a Rent controlled building.

If he is NOT on the lease, he is a month-to-month renter. Give him 30-days WRITTEN notice to vacate ON OR BEFORE the next rental period. Make sure to follow your states LL/T laws!

A Money Order, or Bank Cashiers Check stub is NOT proof you paid rent. It's proof you purchased a Money Order or Bank Cashiers Check.

I am not a lawyer blah blah blah, This is an entertainment forum blah blah blah, basically I cannot be held liable!

**A: anyone acusing a roomate of eating his TV dinners ought to get kicked out just for eating that crap.

No can do in rent controlled area. And to be honest...the LL is really the only one who can evict you both. Does the LL know and approve of this person living there? Why isn't he on the lease? Did you get written permission from the LL to have him move in?

You can TRY giving him notice to leave but when push comes to shove and you try legally remove him..the eviction controls and fact you are not owner and YOUR lease and any restrictions re: subletting or having roommates w/o permission will all be subject to come up and put YOU in the hot seat.
