Husband recently abandoned family in Virginia and moved to a different state. Has been a difficult struggle to pay all bills on own with three kids, but have managed okay with the exception of last months rent being past due by six days. I paid the rent and late fees incurred. This month's paycheck has not yet arrived in the mail(have yet to be able to track it down between work and my mailbox) so bearly feeding kids and rent was late again. I recieved a typed letter from landlord stating a detainer had been filed and the court date was June 5th. What can I expect that day? Will I be escorted off the property that day or will I be given a few days to get my things together. I have no place to move to until June 11th. For the rude responder who likes to keep adding that we have no right to take a loan from the landlord and should borrow money from family because we all have no values...yeah, yeah...got your message. Don't waste your precious energy to type yet another sainted reponse for me. Any sincere reponse would be greatly appreciated.

First ...do you have a lease?

If so You will have a court date on june 5th and you will have to pay IN FULL the rent and other fees the landord is asking for in the summons on that date.

Also it would be best to have Junes rent ready to hand the landlord on June 5th in court as well...

So why do you have a check mailed to you? Where is it coming from and why cant you get it at the office?

It so mysterious when you cant pay the rent on time one month, then a paycheck dissapears the next month, that no one would believe you.

eg. you still go to work everyday but have not recieved your last paycheck...hmmmmm sounds like a dot.com company!

Dankk.. don't be dense...

Lots of people work for companies who MAIL paychecks to employees. Lots of companies don't even do their own payrolls, it is outsourced to a service and there is often NO ONE in the local office to write a check in the event one is lost.

To think for a second that the US Postal Service is a well-run organization that functions efficiently is a huge fallacy and a joke ! They screw up ALL the time. I don't know how many times I've had to wrestle with the ugly behemoth that is the USPS because THEY lost a letter or a package. Every day I get someone else's mail in my mailbox, but not everyone is as concientious as me and either takes it to my neighbor or returns it to the post office !

Furthermore, where her check comes from and why its mailed to her really isn't any of your business and has no bearing on her question.

Sorry for butting in, but ignorant, sanctimonious replies such as yours really annoys me. People are looking for help, not ridicule.

UH if they outsource the payroll they must offer direct deposit as well.

I know here in NY they must.

I would be sitting with the bookeeper until i get my check and the other one had a stop payment put on it. .........

oops the bookeeper just took off for a 3 week vacation and no one else not even the company president can authorize a check to her.

see how rediculous this whole thing sounds

Is she trying to tell us she gets paid on the 1st and she still doesnt have her check?

If she was any kind of a decent responsible honest employee the company would immediately issue another check,

like i said something is fishy here and its NOT just the US post office.

Literally when you get into court and your name has been called you will be asked if the complaint is true or not if you say yes and you have the money with you to settle this matter please indicate so. Dont miss court or you forfeit all chance of comming to a settlement and being heard . now DO contact your countys social services and see if there is emergency assistance available to you . Also do contact some churches inb the area to see if they have emergency funds to assist getting your rent caught up .
