| | | What are my tenant rights in Texas? What is the name of your state?I live in Texas and I'm in the process of buying a home. My sellers made an unexpected trip out of town which put off my closing date for two weeks. The problem I have is I put in my 30 day notice to move out on the 5th and now I will need to stay in my apartment until the 23rd. My landlord is only giving me until the 13 to move out and is threatening to evict me.
What's even more fustrating is she said some things that lead me to believe she is only trying to force me to sign a new lease. How should I handle this situation? |

| | | You're at the mercy of your landlord...you have no bargaining chips.
You could offer to pay extra rent for the privilege to stay until the 23rd. Or put your stuff in storage prior to the 13th and find somewhere to bunk until your closing date. Or take your chances that they won't have enough time to file for eviction and get a hearing between the 13th & 23rd.
Compromise, grovel, do whatever it takes. Make sure you let your landlord know that you're sorry your problem has become hers and you appreciate her understanding. | |
