My ex-roommate, who is not on the lease has not been living here and has not been paying rent for about 4 months now. His property is still here. He has had plenty of oppotunities to come and get it and hasn't. What rights do I have as to getting rid of his things? |

My response:
What things (trashcan) did he leave (Goodwill) in the house? If he didn't leave anything (garage sale), then he'd be hardpressed to prove (second-hand store) that he left anything there at all.
And then, when he finally does come for his things, all you have to say, "there wasn't anything of yours here. You took everything with you. Why would you leave anything here in the first place? You must be absolutely mistaken. Leave now, or I'm calling the police."
Good luck to you.

| | | Ummm, I think he just gave you the best advice you are going to get. In case you didn't understand he is saying that you can get rid of the things because they have been abandoned. |

| | | Send a letter that you're going to sell his stuff to pay for storage fees. Hold a garage sale or put it in an auction. Then, surprise surprise, the storage fees will just happen to exceed what you got for the stuff.
