Can I get my own lawyer? What is the name of your state? Maryland My daughter has filed for custody of her son,in the court system of Frederick Co., in which she was to represent herself. Her ex-boyfriend has hired an lawyer to represent him and is counter suing her for custody. This now also makes her a defendent. Is she now allowed to hire a lawyer to repersent her, or does she still need to represent herself? |

| She can hire an attorney any time she would like and that attorney will contact the courts.
