Can they do this

What is the name of your state? ca
Can the defense call the plaintiff(s) as a witness. The plaintiffs did not state that they would be testifying, yet the defense included them on their witness list. Is this OK? Is there a Federal Rule of Civil Procedure that covers this? Or a decision?
