I divoced 14 years ago. My ex was a federal employee. My attorney advised not to negotiate his pension, stating that if he died I would continue to receive benefits. My ex is now retiring and I found out that my attorney did not word the divoce papers properly and I have no survivorship benefits. Was it not her responsibility to be aware of the pension laws and draft the final divorce papers properly?
