HIPAA Laws ViolationWhat is the name of your state? MASSACHUSETTS I have two employers, one a major municipality, one in the private sector. My private sector employer is with whom I chose to have my health insurance. My municipality employer is requiring me to provide them proof that I have medical insurance, so that I can receive a bonus for not having insurance through the municipality. By them requiring this information, isn't this a violation of my privacy in accordance with the HIPAA laws? Thank you, Michael |

| No. HIPAA just protects access to your privileged medical information. Whether you are insured or not is not a privileged fact. Plus, the municipality is asking YOU to provide proof of coverage, so HIPAA is not triggered.

| There's a lot of misinfo on HIPAA. I had a nurse tell me that I could not give my medical information to my wife!
