Exclamation

Lawyer dead?? We wouldn't know!

What is the name of your state? Missouri, Jackson County.

My husband got into an accident last June. Within 1 month we had hired this attorney. For the first few months we thought everything was going alright... didn't expect a settlement (other drivers fault, husband was injured, missed work, and so on) really soon or anything. Every couple of months I would have my husband call to see how things were going, what was going on, that sort of thing.... well for the past 3-4 months our lawyer has not returned one call. We gave me a couple weeks the first time then called back, then called back a little more frequently. Left a message with the secretary that all we wanted was an updated, but we wanted one now (we were upset after 2 months of no returned calls)... Now we are STILL waiting on this idiot to call us back. Of course now we hear of other people who have had a bad experience with this guy but my husband has already signed the contract to give the lawyer 1/3 or what we get from the settlement.. I am wanting to know WHAT DO WE DO? Should we go up there for a face to face? Or report him? Or what? We just want this case settled already and just done. Please help! Any suggestions are very appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Have you camped out on his doorstep to confront him? Go to his office and bother his receptionist. He/She won't put up with that for long until the boss gets an ultimatum. Don't cause a ruckus or you'll be escorted off the property. Call your state's Bar Association and check this person's references and make a complaint. You have lots of options, including going to talk to another attorney who is more responsible. This new attorney will know what to do with your already signed "contract".

Perhaps I should rephrase my statement...

You could check with the association of legal persons commonly referred to as the "Bar" in Missouri...

And if you have ever been to a bar convention...most of them are in the bar!

I went to Concord NH one time and checked in to the Holiday (?) Ramada (?)...some chain motel.

Anxious to taste the local fare, I wandered down to the restaurant....It was the Kansas City Steakhouse (Y'all come back now, hear)!

I axed the girl running the place if she thought KC was in the Deep South.

She said, "Close enough."
