Lawyer is harming me instead of helping me

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
I am a 47yr. old single female trying support myself, teenage daughter and grandson alone with no other financial support.
I was charged with a DUI back in April of 2008. Since then my attorney has missed 2 court dates, gave me a wrong court date and this last and most harmful act was; I did not receive notice of another court date until late afternoon of the date it was set for. I received the notice late afternoon via mail on the same day court was, except court was scheduled for early am.
So this last court date that I missed, because I was not informed of, caused me not to be able to reinstate my class D license until this coming June of 2009.
I have relyed on my lawyer to give me advice on how to keep my license. I have no other source of information except from him.
Since my license has been suspended I have lost my job, my residence and not been able to find work since June 9, 2008. The judge, Springfield, DMV and my attorney have all told me that I have been able to reinstate my license since Sept. of 2008. Since I have not been working I haven't been able to do this because of finances. The DMV told me I can reinstate after I bring proof of paying two outstanding tickets. My tax return has come in and I put it towards the two tickets. My next step was to reinstate my license by lowering my license down from a CDL class A to a class D. When I returned to the DMV to do so they told me my license has been put on "stop" not elegible to reinstate even my class D license. This is because of the court date that I missed because of not knowing about the court date. Which my attorney was suppose to inform me of.
I did everything I was suppose to do to be able to reinstate my license. My next step ASAP was to get employed so that I would be able to resume "my" life and return to taking care of myself And my teenage daughter And my grandson. I know I should have never put ourselves in this disaster. Wasn't thinking that a couple of drinks with my girlfriend would ruin our lives this way. But . . .
Because of this lawyer and the miscommunication between us and the judge my life, my daughter and grandsons lives are still in shambles, and will remain there until this gets settled. I have not had income since June 9, 2008. Cannot collect unemployment or get support from else where.
One more thing, I was referred to this judge thru my dispatcher who used his services to help him with a DUI. He said he didn't even need to go to court.
After I hired him, aproximately 3 or 4 months later, the attorney informed me that he has Never done a DUI case before. Meaning mine was his very first one. This man is not a young man and he should have told me this to begin with.
Besides this, the arresting officer stated on my report that I was driving my jeep/commercial company vehicle. Which Springfield took as I was driving my tractor trailer when I was arrested, which I was not. I was in "my" personal vehicle. Not a tractor trailer. Springfield told me that all the places that I apply with will have to call Springfield to get this verified. Not very easy for me to find employment especially with this on my MVR. I feel like a "Real Immature Nieve Looser" I do have a good head on my shoulders and I relize what a big mess I put myself into. But I need help in getting some relief.
Is there anything I can do to get this moving faster and hopefully have some kind of structure out of this. So far this DUI has cost me aprox. $30,000 and the stability and security I once had.
I have not been drinking or driving since the incident. I've been doing all I can to correct this mess that I put myself in. I need help ASAP.

Thank You for your time,
Anita
